It is my nature to engage and contribute to the communities in which I belong. I am running because I care deeply about public education and believe my educational, professional, and community experience can contribute meaningfully to the continued success of Jenison Public Schools.
Our responsibility is to prepare students not only to succeed academically, but to be ready for the lives and work ahead of them. That includes maintaining high academic standards, supporting meaningful student growth, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their potential. Student engagement and belonging are essential. Students who feel safe, supported and connected are better positioned to learn and succeed.
Student safety must be foundational, including physical and emotional safety as well as the increasingly complicated challenges created by technology and social media. Students and employees need environments where they can learn and work without fear. Districts need thoughtful policies, resources, and expertise to respond to emerging challenges.
Public schools are entrusted with finite resources and need adequate, stable funding to fulfill their mission. At the local level, the Board has a responsibility to be a careful steward of those resources—to understand where dollars are going and evaluate whether investments are producing the intended outcomes. We need to continue to recruit, develop and retain high quality teachers and ensure they are equipped with the resources needed to support student learning, growth, and success.
